Super Mario

I always have a thing for cute rooms, even if you check my Tumblr, majority of my posts would be of rooms. I was browsing for room interiors and I found this really cute Super Mario themed room. Cool!!

"Young talented artist Antoinette J. Citizen has decorated a normal room to look like the first level from the Nintendo game Super Mario Bros. It contains all the bricks, question marks, coins and boxes that you can find in the real game. The boxes are in 3D, and the background that would be the room’s walls are pixelated so it looks like you are in the middle of a real Mario game, and to complete it all – the room is installed with sound effects
If you are able to let your imagination run free, you will have loads of fun visiting this room."

Clay-ver Clever

I'm seriously dreaming for a DSLR camera or at least a good quality Digicam. I am asking Jeff to give me one as an anniversary gift which will happen in June. I know I still have to wait for 2 months but I asked him in advance so that he can still save for a good one and also because he's the kind of man who always thinks a hundred times before doing/buying anything. I'm not sure though if he'll buy me nga. Haha!

I was google-ing for a cheap Canon DSLR and here's what I got.

Well, this camera is made with non other than -- clay! Weighs an ounce and no bigger than a two-peso coin in diameter.

The girl in the bar

Grey's Anatomy was the first US TV series I've seen and got addicted to. At first I thought I wouldn't like it but I was wrong. I actually end up loving it. I was able to finish season 1 & 2  in less than a week. Yes, I'm not sleeping at all! Haha! I'm now lost. Season 4 is the last I've watched.

One of my favorite scenes is when Derek and Meredith met at Joe's Bar.

Joe: Straight tequila? Really? You are going to be sorry in the morning.
Meredith: I'm always sorry in the morning. But tomorrow is my first day at work, so keep 'em coming.
Derek: Double scotch, single malt please. [To Meredith] So, is this a good place to hang out?
Meredith: I wouldn't know, never been here before.
Derek: You know what? I haven't either. First time here. I'm new in town. Never been to Seattle. New job soon. Ah, you're ignoring me.
Meredith: Um, trying to.
Derek: Well you shouldn't ignore me.
Meredith: Why not?
Derek: Because I'm someone you need to get to know to love.
Meredith: Really?
Derek: Oh yes.
Meredith: So if I know you, I'll love you?
Derek: Oh yes.
Meredith: You really like yourself huh?
Derek: Just hiding my pain.
[They laugh.]
Derek: So what's your story?
Meredith: I don't have a story. I'm just a girl in a bar.
Derek: I'm just a guy in a bar.

The world's famous coffee

I was trying to search the history of Starbucks since it's my favorite coffee shop and I've found a really interesting blog about their logo that I wanna share with you. It has changed over the years.  I've attached some pix for you to have an idea on how it looks like.

HERE'S THE BLOG: ENJOY!!!
You are probably here because you looked closely at the Starbucks logo and were a little confused about what is depicted on it. Is it a mermaid? What are those things that she is holding up with her hands? Wasn't the logo different before? What's the history of it?

I asked those questions myself and did a little bit of digging. My research started with a book that I had, called A Dictionary of Symbols by J.E. Cirlot. In it there was a chapter about Sirens.

Basically, from what I gathered from different sources, including that book, there is a lot of confusion between the different mythological half-women. Typically they are called Sirens - both the half-bird/half-woman and the half-fish/half-woman varieties. The fish type are usually called Mermaids. Both types according to the ancient Greeks were in the business of seducing mariners with songs and promises of sex and then killing them, but Hans Christian Andersen and Disney mostly made everybody forget that.

The whole sex-symbol status of mermaids hinges on the question which part is "woman" - upper or lower. "The other type of mermaid" that hapless Fry was referring to would have problems attracting suitors, of course. And how do you do it with the normal type?

Wise mythologists came up with the answer, of course. And the answer is a two-tailed mermaid sometimes called a Melusine.

The book had an old engraving of a two-tailed mermaid. It reminded me of the Starbucks Siren, but back then I did not realize that the original Starbucks logo had a slightly altered version of that engraving in the original brown cigar band-shaped logo.

Stay safe on-line

ON-LINE SAFETY TIPS:

1. No social networking site is safe.
Reporting bad people to the police is important. Remember to call law enforcement if threatened.

2. Don't lie about your age.
If you lie about your age, your profile may be deleted without notice.

3. Don't give out your contact information.
Social Networking sites are a public space, including your profile. The whole world can see it. Don't post your phone number, address, IM, or specific whereabouts.

4. People aren't always who they say they are.
A person may appear harmless and actually be very dangerous. They may say they are one age and actually be another. Report dangerous people to the police.

5. Report nudity, harassment, hate speech, and other inappropriate content.
Call the cops if you think anyone is in danger.

6. You can be denied admission to college or a job based on things you put in your profile.
It has happened. Don't let it happen to you. Don't post things that can embarrass you later in a public space like Multiply.

7. Don't get scammed.
Never respond to a piece of spam. Never provide a password unless you are 100% sure you are on the right site.

8. Don't meet people in real life that you only "know" online.
Predators are out there. Don't meet people in real life. If you do decide to meet someone, tell your parents first, meet in a public place, and bring a trusted adult.

9. Sex with an underage person is rape.
It does not matter if that person lied about their age. It's rape and you will go to prison.

10. Report threats to the police.
If you think there is a threat to your or someone else's safety, call 9-1-1, or let your local police know asap. You will not get in trouble for making a report.

11. Dealing with a Cyber Bully?
Being bullied is no fun. Here are some things you can do to make it stop: call the police; delete your profile; document your harassment; don't respond.

12. Create Intricate Passwords.
Use passwords that are at least eight characters long that include at least one number and one character.

City Ville

I signed up for Facebook on October 2008 and got really active since January 2009. My officemate  told me to try out Pet Society, so I did! Everyday I'll open my account to just play with my purple pet Basha. I got so addicted that I even use Jeff's credit card to buy playfish cash. Haha! Many other games popped out like Farm Ville, Sorority Life, Typing Maniac, Farm Town, Restaurant City, Cafe World, name it! I played all the games on Facebook till I got bored and decided to stop playing. It's been so long since I last opened any of the game apps on my account. Browsing on my News Feed I noticed that most of my friends are playing a new game called City Ville. I even got lots of invites to join. "Hmmmm. Not interested!.... On December 23, I finally decided to try it out, and Congratulations! I'm addicted!!! In a span of 19 Days I reached level 27 and increased my reputation to 21. Can you believe that?? Hahaha! Maybe you should also give it a try and enjoy!!!☺

Welcome 2011!!

Our family decided to have a "Dress to Impress" theme for New Year's eve. Actually it was my cousin Izzi who came up with the idea since color dress codes are too gasgas. Everyone cooperated and dressed as if we're all attending a formal occasion. We are not told that prices are to be given away to a family member who wore the best dress. I'm not prepared! I don't even manage to buy a new dress to use. I know I won't win since I only borrowed the one I'm wearing from Izzi. The winners are my sister Carla, my brother Kim and Inna.

Burgos family goes wacky!
L-R: Inna, Me, Carla, Tim, Theo, Izzi and Kim
Izzi and I crying our lungs out!
Mother and Daughter both scared of fireworks. Hahaha!
Kebab and Vegetable Salad: The only food I ate during the night.

What forced me.....

Another ordinary day. Soleil's in school and Jeff leave early for work. I was home alone. After doing house chores I turned on my PC, logged on to Facebook, played CityVille and check on Twitter. I usually spent most of my surfing time reading tweets. While browsing I came down to Laureen Uy's tweet regarding her latest post on her blog BreakMyStyle. I got curious and thought of clicking the link and have a peep on what she's blogging about. I found her blog interesting to read and not to mention her style and love for fashion that really caught my attention. So I continued reading till I reach the latter part of her blog. That's it? Bitin naman!!! "I want to read more blog posts!", I told myself. --After eating lunch, I sat again on my throne (computer chair), surf and go to TopBlogs website and look for more to read. Little did I noticed that I'm starting to get hooked and realized it was already 7pm. I took a pause and went to my parent's house to eat dinner. Soleil and I went home by 9 and the moment we enter our room, I turned my PC on again and continued where I stopped. Since then I realized, I love BLOGS! and told myself, why not put up my own blog? So, I reactivated my blogger account and poooof HERE I AM!!!!
